Trinity Christian Church – A brief history.

Trinity Christian Church was started in 1984 by David and Elaine Campbell, along with a small group of people in Owen Sound who wanted to see more of the kingdom of God, but had not been able to find it in local churches they were part of.  David had previously been involved in church planting in the UK (Emmanuel Church Durham, part of the Newfrontiers family of churches) and had a hunger for the restoration of New Testament church life.  The church grew very slowly.  It was a struggle to draw people out of a traditional perception of church based on programmes rather than relationships.  In 1987 David and Elaine nearly returned to the UK to work with Newfrontiers, but felt God was calling them to stay and persevere.  In the mid 90s, the church was touched by the movement of the Holy Spirit centred at Toronto Airport Christian Fellowship. In recent years the church has experienced a slow but steady growth in breadth and depth.  Through the seasons of persevering, God has drawn together a leadership team and church family of people who understand God’s Kingdom and are prepared to walk together in covenant commitment in the service of Christ.  For many years, we received great wisdom and oversight from Duane Harder of Vernon, British Columbia, and through Duane came into partnership with Foundation Ministries in the United States.  David has travelled extensively for some years in the Foundation churches in the USA, as well as in churches which are part of the Newfrontiers family in the UK, including the church he originally started and others which have been planted out of it.  We are now part of the worldwide family of Newfrontiers, with churches in seventy nations, and a small but growing presence in Canada.   We believe we are standing today on the edge of a major season of advancement for the kingdom of God in our community of Owen Sound as well as our nation of Canada.  He who began the good work will also bring it to completion (Philippians 1:4).
